First of all, I hope all of you are fine and are having a nice time learning languages.
With this short post I would like to inform you about some important changes that will take place on the blog.
This will be the last (or at least one of the last) post I will publish in English because after a lot of brainstorming I decided to change the main language of the blog to German.
As you might know, up to now I published most blog posts in both English and German and I know that many of you enjoyed having the possibility to choose between the languages. Over the last months I’ve been thinking a lot about this topic and from the beginning it was pretty obvious that I won’t be able to continue writing in both languages.
First of all, it’s a matter of time but also translating my own writing felt a bit awkward. For me, blogging means writing about one’s thoughts, not so much structured writing in the sense of essays, reports etc. And translating somehow forced me to revise both versions over and over again and my writing lost a bit the touch of personality. At least this was my impression.
So why German and not English? As always, there are advantages as well as disadvantages for both options. Writing in German feels more natural to me as it’s my native language but by writing in English I can potentially reach much more readers.
The main reason why I eventually opted for German is that there is a wide range of language blogs available in English but hardly any offers for German speakers/learners. I, myself, love reading about different topics in various languages and as my main passion are languages, I would love to see more language-related blogs in different languages. And when I would like to see other people writing in different languages, I have to provide this offer myself as well
I know that this decision will result in losing a lot of readers and if this changes affects you in a negative way, I am really sorry. If you are a reader of the blog and learn German, I would like to encourage you to read the upcoming blog posts even if your level is still low. Exposure to the target language is always a good way to improve.
It will take a few weeks to update the administrative features on the blog and it might be that you will find a kind of mixture of English and German. I will try to sort this out as soon as possible. The old, already published posts will be available in both languages, of course.
Last but not least, I would like to thank each reader for their interest in and their participation on the blog. I really enjoy exchanging views and ideas with you and I’m happy to participate in the language learning community. And I really hope that many of you will be able to continue participating on the blog – wouldn’t it be a nice opportunity to work in your German?!?!
Thank you and (hopefully) talk to you soon!
Dani
PS: New posts in German will be published shortly.
